Pillar of German Pavilion in Barcelona:
Ludwig Mies van der Rohe (1886-1969) designed in 1929 the German Pavilion for Barcelona's International Expo.The set of exempt planes, The free designing of the ground plan,the indoor-outdoor continuity through the large glass panels and the reflections of marble, glass and water surfaces,meant the idea of freedom and progress of the new German republic after the first World War.Is the archetypal example of simplicity and rigor constructive defined by Mies: "less is more".The design is based on a 1.09 m2 module and has an area of 1000 m2. The roof is supported by eight cross-shaped pillars formed by four metal profiles L.100.100.10 mm, plated with stainless steel sheet.The pillars form 4 gantries with central light of 6.65 and 7.35 m. with cantilever in extremes of 2.10 and 3.45 m.The actual building is a replica built between 1983 and 1986. |
